Philosophy professors sat talking. Someone said:
The most important trait in a person is his beauty… and the rest of the traits can be developed with diligence… even the mind can be trained and developed. Coins can be earned. As for beauty, it is the only quality that a person cannot earn.
The second objected:
Today we are in the twenty-first century. Beauty is no longer a trait that a person gets by inheritance only. Today they do plastic surgery. They shorten the nose. They puff out the lips. They enlarge the chest.. As for wisdom.. it is a talent.. that cannot be acquired unless the human genes carry it from birth.
The third denied what his colleagues said:
Your conversation has nothing to do with reality.. Everything today has a price.. Wisdom also has a price. Wisdom has become like plastic surgery, a person can obtain it if his pockets are filled with money. Even the stupid becomes the head of wisdom if he is rich. Around it you will find cheerleaders, porters and dancers.
The debate intensified among fellow philosophers. The professors failed to reach a unified position. They attributed this to the free liberal system and unlimited democracy. The development of thought and the right to pluralism…
They left the university, each in his car.
On the way, the sky was blazing brightly, and an angel sent from the Lord of the Worlds appeared to each professor of philosophy among the interlocutors.
The professor asked the beauty lover, what would you choose among three things: wisdom, beauty or ten million dollars?
After hesitation, he chose wisdom, giving up beauty… which he usually insists is the best quality.
They asked the second one who favors money, so thoughts swirled in his head, and after difficult hesitation he chose wisdom, perhaps it is the guarantee of his position and it is more important than money that may disappear suddenly as it came suddenly.
They asked the third, who saw wisdom as the best quality, and said without hesitation that he chooses wisdom, giving up money, which can also make fools wise.
At dawn the next day they met in the teaching room. They looked remorseful.
After a period of silence, one of them broke the silence, talking about the lightning in the sky and the appearance of the angel of the Lord, telling him to choose one of the three characteristics.. So he chose wisdom, relinquishing his previous position.
“And this happened to me.” The second said.. “I also chose wisdom, relinquishing my previous positions.”
“And it happened to me.” The third said, and added, “I was already convinced that wisdom was the required quality. And I chose it.”
One of them said: “Now we have the wisdom if we were given the choice now, and we have the wisdom…. What do we choose when we are wiser?
The two colleagues fell silent and did not say a word.
Someone suggested: We all chose wisdom, and there is no doubt that it is a great gift, and there is no increase in it for anyone over another. Let’s take advantage of our great wisdom and choose again. Each one writes on a piece of paper his choice if the angel appeared to him, asking him again to choose between wisdom, beauty, and ten million dollars.
And that’s what it was. Each philosopher recorded his new choice.
And when they opened the papers, there was an answer text similar to the three philosophers: I will choose the ten million dollars!!
